Smart Company Solution

Hubconsult’s Smart Company Solution allows you to use Hubconsult as your own company for invoicing and contracting  – soooo much simpler and cheaper than setting up your own company!

Using our low-cost, tax-efficient service company in Hong Kong, you have the features you need to do business more efficiently:

  1. Business owners: save cost and time – all the benefits of owning a company at a fraction of the cost and time of running one!
  2. Consultants: Invoice your clients as a subcontractor – quote Hubconsult on your invoices and ask us to pay you wherever you like.
  3. Projects owners: when bidding for your consulting project, or when you have been awarded the project, ask your client to contract with you through Hubconsult: set your Corporate Tax and VAT rates to zero from the start of the project!
  4. Grant Managers: Grant projects managed by many Trust Funds are subject to management fees as high as 7% or more. Hubconsult can provide much better value for money – much lower fees and far more prompt accounting information.

The process of getting paid is a simple 1,2,3,4:

  1. Simply invoice your client from Hubconsult
  2. Hubconsult gets paid
  3. You invoice Hubconsult including your bank details
  4. Hubconsult transfers your funds to you at your chosen account

This is a static worked example. (Of course, to calculate your savings more precisely you should plug in your own figures to see how much you could save yourself. Your own company set-up costs, accounting and bookkeeping costs, sales or profit tax rates may be higher or lower than this example. You can also amend to your own currency too.)

* assuming here our recommended Gold Plan to give you an average accounting and auditing cost of €300, which is paid upfront for 5 years. You can also opt to deduct this from your first invoice.

** your Corporate and VAT rates are zero as a Hubconsult Member. (Hubconsult does not make any claim about your personal Income Tax rate which is dependent on your personal circumstances. You are wholly responsible for your own personal tax affairs.)

** special client-specific requirements such as special contracting could be charged extra – for example if you ask us to review your contract details in more depth. (However, you have complete control of that.)

Pricing

(For the first 3 months, no subscription fee or service fee is applied. In the second 3 months, only the service fee is applied and deducted from your invoice.)

Thereafter, you choose a subscription plan.

In deciding how long to sign up for, consider that the online subscription fee and the service fee deducted from your invoice are discounted when you sign up for longer. In any case, since you will be planning to be a consultant, or run your business over the long term, then a longer term plan is likely to make the most sense for you. That is why our most popular plan is the Gold Plan, which costs less than €1 per month (i.e. around the price of your morning cappuccino, a very low subscription fee!) and minimises your service fee to just 1% of your invoice (or 2% for contracting).

Monthly and Annual subscribers need to pay a small Registration Fee of €100. This is also waived for Gold and Platinum Plan holders.

Even a short term subscription such as the €50 per month Bronze Plan costs you less than €2 per day. Your invoicing service fee will be 2% in that case. This is still a remarkably small price for such convenience and peace of mind!

Hubconsult’s Smart Company Solution evolved from my own personal experience working in so many countries around the world (I am now up to 94!). You’ll find me in Italy, UK (where I am from), or maybe in an airport! (Drop me a line, if you think our paths may cross..!)

Speaking to many consultants, I heard several frustrations, ones which they wished there was a solution to:

  • The expense of book-keepers
  • The huge amount of time is takes to manage company admin
  • Cost and hassle of year-end audits, completing and filing Annual Returns
  • The bureaucracy and fees involved in opening and maintaining a registered company
  • The huge loss of earnings from taxes and VAT
  • Difficulty in keeping accounting systems up to date when on the move
  • Lengthy process to open a company bank account and so on
  • Difficulty in bidding on projects on one’s own without sufficient project references

So we worked on bringing you a solution that makes more sense for you, at a sensible price – the Hubconsult Smart Company Solution – and designed with international consultants in mind!

I started Hubconsult back in 2002 offering technical assistance on donor-funded projects both as a contractor and sub-contractor. Having just returned from volunteering with Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO) on a USAID-funded Rural Business Programme for an NGO in Eastern Zambia, I was invited to bid on a tender on a donor funded project in China. To my amazement, the bid won! And so, Hubconsult was launched…

Since then Hubconsult has won several projects as a Europeaid Framework Contract consortium partner, with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Lux Development and with UK Government grant funds sending small teams of consultants on missions.

I have also worked on numerous projects in the field of international development myself as a sub-contractor – on corporate governance, public finance, Budget Support, Monitoring and Evaluation, strategic planning in a variety of sectors such as justice, Rule of Law, energy and agricultural commodity value chains (sugar, coffee etc). The main clients have been Europeaid (as well as its contractors), and other organisations such as FAO, UNDP, DfID, ADB and IFAD.  In Europe, Africa, Asia, Central America and Caribbean – that’s a lot of airports!

Hubconsult runs smoothly in the background thanks to our team of accountants and registered Auditors in Hong Kong. We also use Xero accounting to make sure invoices and payments are properly recorded and accessible at any time, wherever you are working.
